At Kōkua Tree Care, we are more than just a local tree care business—we are a dedicated collective of skilled high-angle climbers, professional tree care experts, and regenerative land stewards. United by a shared respect for the ‘āina, our network brings together decades of diverse experience in safe tree operations, specialized climbing, and holistic orchard management.

John Dillon Craven
Hailing from the beautiful Rogue Valley, John’s love for trees has been deeply rooted since his early years. Growing up inspired by the majestic redwood forests and crystal-clear wild rivers of the Pacific Northwest, his dedication to environmental preservation led him to write his senior thesis on the importance of safeguarding these invaluable ecosystems.
Seeking new horizons and driven by an immense love for sustainability, cultivating fruit, surfing, and adventure, John embarked on a transformative journey to Hawaii through the WWOOF program. It was here, surrounded by the breathtaking landscapes of Maui, that his connection with trees truly matured. He immersed himself in managing local food forests, developing a deep appreciation for the unique challenges of sustainable communal living and holistic land management.
Over time, John realized the profound significance of not only working in harmony with nature but also building a sustainable, community-focused livelihood. Dedicating himself entirely to the craft, he forged a professional path into arboriculture, seamlessly weaving together his passion for tree preservation, sustainable practices, and community collaboration. From this vision, Kōkua Tree Care—and its foundational “Heart & Soil” ethos—was born.
Today, John brings a wealth of hands-on agricultural knowledge and elite climbing expertise to every property he visits, ensuring Maui’s trees are healthy, safe, and looking great.
